Find a brokerage or community college that offers the course. Some brokerages offer an online course that you can take at your own pace. Most states have a background check that must be completed before you take the test. Of course you will have to pass the course, then find a brokerage to hang your license at.

To be successful, you must be willing to work your tail off at first. It’ll get easier once you have a client base and referrals coming in.

I have a lot of respect for people who are looking to get a real estate license now. Like any business, real estate moves in cycles and as you know we’re in the midst of a pretty severe downturn for the industry. That said, if you get ready now you’ll be positioned to benefit from the next upswing – and that upswing could start soon!
As far as getting licensed goes, most every state requires that you complete some form of real estate pre license course, and demonstrate the successful completion of that course. Once you’ve completed the course you will be required to sit for a licensing exam. Pass the exam, pay some fees and you’ll be licensed.
For information about the exact process in your state visit your state real estate commission website.
Once licensed you’ll want to go to work with a local broker. Expect a slow start especially in the current market. Use this time to learn everything you can so that when the real estate market turns back around you’ll be positioned to do very well.
Best of luck to you!
