Tell them to DELETE their innacurate tradeline immedietly and recall the account out of collections.

You can also send a debt validation letter to the collection agency.

Something like this:

Dear sir/madam.

Account number 97469746r493

I dispute the validity of this alleged debt please validate. I’ve been in contact with the alleged original credit and they have no record of any such debt under my name. Please provide me with full validation.

If no such validation exists I demand you cease and desist collection activity or I will file formal complaints with the AG of your State and mine and with the BBB.

Something like that ….

Good Luck!

Send it certified mail return reciept requested.

If a debt has been sent to collections its pretty normal for the orignal creditor to destroy their records after a certain number of years.

The good part of that is that if that many years have passed and you haven’t heard from a CA or found one on your credit report just forget about it.

I also agree with the above poster. If they have no knowledge of you, destroyed records or not, then they need to remove their tradeline from your credit report immediately or you can file a lawsuit. Call and tell them this, then send a validation letter, THEN contact the CRAs with the information. Hopefully the first option will work. If not, come back and we’ll all help you play hardball :)
